I would love to send out a big THANK YOU to Dry Like me! (It’s a company that makes absorbent pads for your little one that you can use while potty training to catch all those accidents that you have early on.)
They put out a shout-out that they were looking for families who wanted to get out of diapers this summer! And with everything we’ve been going through, I knew this was a sign that it was time!
So, THANK YOU to everyone over at Dry Like Me for the support and advice… and encouragement to get this done! We’re running on a schedule, so getting out of diapers (or Nappies as they say in the UK) was really important!
Well, after everything we’ve been through in the past year, our potty training got delayed.
The moving around, the shipwreck, the just trying to get settled after losing everything… and all the illness. It’s just been crazy for us. Potty training was one of the things that we, (ok that I) got really relaxed about as we handled everything else.
When I heard about Dry Like Me helping to get little ones potty trained this summer, I knew it was a sign that it was time. Ok, Ok… it was way past time, but none-the-less, it was our time to get this potty/diaper thing handled!
We have been working on this for about 3 weeks now, and we’re doing really well.
The first week we had problems. Once a day, for seemingly no reason she would take a poo in her underpants, (we threw out all the diapers). It’s not that she was afraid of the potty… she would use it the rest of the time. It was just this once a day that seemed to be like clockwork.
Then the illness started. I was stuck in bed, (with kidney stones), and Alan, (my husband) had to take over potty training. This seemed to get her much more on track of using the potty when she needed to.
After I felt better, (ok, the pain had stopped, but I was weak and tired), Anna got the flu and was sick for a week. This was really something to help show just the amount of progress we made! I was sure we were going to need to get back to diapers while she was sick. But NO! Anna came through well, and kept using the potty even through some visits had stuff coming out both ends. (A tummy bug is always a terrible thing, especially so with little ones… but during potty training too, it’s truly crazy.)
Now, here we are, finally feeling all better. We are at the point now that we do occasionally have accidents, but they really ARE accidents at this point! Also, the accidents are becoming fewer and fewer as she (and we all) learn when and how often she needs to use the potty.
